Shopify Redirect Builder
reapps.com.au
Renamed, merged or split products? Upload your catalog before and after the change and get a Shopify redirect file for every product URL that no longer exists.
Old products with no match in the new file are sent here. Leave blank to leave them out of the file and list them below.
Keep Your Rankings When Product URLs Change
Every Shopify product lives at /products/its-handle. When you rename a product, merge several colours into one listing, or split one listing into many, the old handles disappear and their URLs start returning "page not found". Links from search results, emails, ads and other sites then lead nowhere.
The Shopify Redirect Builder compares your catalog before and after the change, works out where each vanished product went, and writes the two-column file that Shopify's URL redirect import accepts. No spreadsheet lookups needed.
Matched by SKU, Not Guesswork
Each old product is matched to the new product that holds its variant SKUs, so the match survives a complete change of title and handle. Products without SKUs fall back to an exact title match. Anything that cannot be matched is listed for you rather than guessed.
Handles Merges and Splits
Merged products all redirect to the combined listing. A product that was split redirects to the new listing holding most of its variants, since one old URL can only point to one place.
When Shopify Creates Redirects for You, and When It Doesn't
If you edit one product's handle in the Shopify admin, a tick box offers to create the redirect on the spot. That covers one-off changes. It does not cover bulk work done by CSV: importing a file with a new handle creates a new product and leaves the old one where it was, and deleting or archiving the old product afterwards creates no redirect at all.
That is the gap this tool fills. Typical cases are renaming a range, merging colour listings into a single product with a colour option, splitting one listing into a product per colour for collection pages and shopping feeds, and moving to a supplier's naming so stock feeds match.
How to Bulk Create Shopify Redirects in 4 Steps
- Export Before You Change Anything: In Shopify admin, export your products to CSV. This is your "before" file.
- Make Your Changes: Rename, merge or split products, then keep the file you imported or take a fresh export. This is your "after" file.
- Build the File: Upload both above and click Build Redirect CSV.
- Import into Shopify: Open the URL redirects page in your Shopify admin, choose Import, and upload the downloaded file.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't my Shopify redirect working after import?
Shopify only applies a redirect when the old URL no longer loads a page. If the original product is still active, visitors see that product instead. Archive or delete the old products first, then the redirects take over.
What about products whose handle did not change?
They are skipped. A redirect is only written for a product URL that exists in the original file and is missing from the new one.
Does it cover collections, pages or blog posts?
No. It works from product CSVs, so it only builds redirects for /products/ URLs.
Are my CSV files retained on your server?
No. Both files are used only to build the redirect list for that request and are discarded as soon as it finishes. Nothing is kept afterwards.
