Bulk Find & Replace
reapps.com.au
Change a word or phrase across a whole catalog. Choose the columns, list what to find and what to put in its place, preview the result, then download.
Handle is ticked. A changed handle imports as a new product and leaves the old one in place.
Bulk Edit Shopify Product Text Without Opening a Spreadsheet
Shopify's bulk editor changes one field at a time and has no find and replace. So when a supplier renames a colour, a brand changes its name, or the same typo turns up in two hundred descriptions, the usual answer is to open the export in a spreadsheet. That works until the spreadsheet rewrites your barcodes in scientific notation, strips leading zeros from SKUs, or breaks a description that contains a quotation mark.
Bulk Find & Replace edits the text and leaves everything else exactly as it was. You choose which columns to search, list as many find and replace pairs as you need, and see a preview with real before and after examples from your own catalog before anything is downloaded.
What It's Used For
Renaming Colours, Sizes and Ranges
Tick the option value columns along with Title and change "Charcoal" to "Graphite" everywhere it appears, in one pass. Add a pair for each rename and they are all applied together.
Fixing Repeated Mistakes
A doubled word, a misspelt material, an out-of-date returns line pasted into every description. Find it once and correct every copy.
Rebranding and Vendor Changes
Replace an old brand or vendor name across titles, descriptions, tags and SEO fields when a supplier rebrands or you move to your own label.
Removing Text
Leave "Replace with" blank to delete a phrase outright, such as a discontinued promotion or a supplier's name inside descriptions you imported.
How to Find and Replace in a Shopify CSV
- Export Your Products: In Shopify admin go to Products, choose Export, and download the CSV.
- Upload and Tick Columns: The tool lists every column in your file. Title, Body (HTML) and Tags are ticked to start with.
- Enter Your Pairs: Type what to find and what to replace it with. Add more pairs as needed.
- Preview: See how many cells would change and read the before and after examples.
- Download and Import: Download the edited CSV and import it into Shopify with the option to overwrite existing products selected.
Whole Words and Capitals
With Whole words only ticked, "Oat" matches the word on its own but not the "oat" inside "Coat" or "Boat", which is what you want for most renames. Untick it to match part of a word. With Match capitals exactly unticked, "mist", "Mist" and "MIST" are all replaced, and the replacement is written exactly as you typed it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I find and replace in Shopify without an app?
Yes. Export your products to CSV, run the file through this tool, and import the result. Nothing is installed in your store and the tool never connects to your Shopify account.
Will it change anything other than the text I searched for?
No. Only cells in the columns you ticked that contain the text are altered. Every other cell, including SKUs, barcodes, prices and image links, is written back exactly as it was.
Can I replace several different things in one go?
Yes. Add a find and replace pair for each change. They are applied in the order listed, up to 50 pairs per run.
Is it safe to change the Handle column?
Usually not. Shopify treats a new handle as a new product, so the old product stays and a duplicate is created. Change handles only if that is what you intend, and use the Redirect Builder afterwards.
Does it understand HTML in descriptions?
It treats the description as text, so it will find words inside HTML tags as well as in the visible wording. Check the preview examples if the text you are replacing could also appear in a link or an image address.
